Problem

Claims of exceptional cognition are vulnerable to vague definitions, selection bias, information leakage, and chance findings, and may expose participants to labeling or psychological pressure.

Research question

Under randomized, blinded, preregistered, and independently replicable conditions, do predefined cognitive tasks produce results consistently above chance?

Testable hypothesis

The following is a testable proposition, not an established result.

If a testable anomalous effect exists, its preregistered primary outcome will exceed chance after bias controls and replicate independently; one result below threshold is not decisive, and preregistered thresholds plus independent replication determine whether evidence supports progression or triggers stopping or revision, without presuming a supernatural conclusion.

  • Accuracy relative to chance, effect size, confidence intervals, and multiple-testing control
  • Blinding integrity, randomization quality, information leakage, and protocol deviations
  • Replication across tasks, time points, and independent teams

Method

First translate phenomena into operational tasks and register exclusion criteria, analysis plans, and failure rules; then use randomization, blinding, controls, and independent analysis, with ethics and psychological-safety review before any pilot.

Governance

Review the research question, analysis code, and interpretation separately; record negative findings, protocol deviations, and conflicts of interest as fully as positive findings.

Ethics

Protect privacy and withdrawal rights, prohibit suggestions of special status, ability rank, or social worth, and pause under prespecified rules if psychological distress appears.
